Acrylic, tape, plexiglass, inkjet print, and foam board

This painting takes the shape of a box featuring a sculpted foam board encased by clear plexiglass sheets that cover the sides and the uppermost surface. I used clear plexiglass to capture memories and decay of a singular space, expressing the cyclicality inherent in our creations. Within this box is a representation of a decaying pool area, with branches and roots of trees made of tape sprawling over the once pristine pool. The foam board (bottom surface of this box) was partially carved out to express the depth of the pool, and inkjet printed photographs of people are glued to the foam board. On top of the plexiglass is a painted depiction of the memory of this space - capturing past architectural structures and people using the pool. This 3D work draws parallels to digital 3D modeling, illustrating the ability to recreate an environment and the disorienting spatial experience in virtual reality.
